Up for sale, a 1980 Greco Super Sound Custom EG800C in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original Lifton-style hardshell case and factory paperwork. Crafted at the Fujigen factory in Japan with close adherence to vintage Gibson spec, this finely-crafted guitar doesn't strictly fall under the "lawsuit" umbrella (there was never any legal action taken against Greco specifically), but the legacy of these Japanese instruments is forever attached to the term, given the adherence to the vintage specs and cosmetic touches of their USA-made counterparts.
Clearly taking its cues from a '68 Les Paul Custom, this model features a carved maple top, long neck tenon, "Screamin" PAF pickups, braided pickup leads, and a hand-carved bone nut. The tonewood complement yields a lively and powerful sounding instrument, qualities faithfully captured by the pair of Maxon-made PU-2 pickups. Featuring Alnico V magnets and wax potting for optimal feedback rejection, these pickups deliver a bevy of quintessential Les Paul tones; the bridge pickup has a complex and detailed sound, with a touch of growl, sweet mids, and rich, round bass response, and the neck humbucker delivers more girth and fullness while still offering plenty of clarity. This Greco weighs 9lbs 10oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.
