Up for sale, a 1980 Gibson Les Paul Standard in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. The three-piece carved maple top, solid (non-sandwich) mahogany body, and maple neck deliver the classic range of sounds indicative of this tonewood combination, with incredible clarity and warmth. Loaded with the original pair of T Top humbuckers, the bridge pickup delivers round, chiming tones with a hint of growl and great cut, while the middle position on the three-way toggle has an ideal rhythm sound, especially with the neck pickup rolled back just a touch. The neck position humbucker has warmth and woof without sacrificing detail, providing a perfect lead sound and a sweetness that lends itself to complex chord voicings. This Les Paul weighs 9lbs 12oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation. The three-piece maple neck has a medium C profile carve, with round but not particularly overt shoulders at the nut, and just a hair more additional heft in the upper registers, measuring .840" deep at the 1st fret and .975" at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard features pearloid trapezoid inlays and the original medium jumbo frets. The frets have been leveled and crowned in the guitar’s lifetime, showing moderate wear on the crowns of frets 1-3, and fainter wear extending beneath the plain strings until fret 7. The guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 11/16" in width, and the "Standard" truss rod cover is intact. The headstock has been fitted with a brand new set of Kluson Deluxe single line tuning machines, perfectly matching the footprint of the originals. There are also faint halos on the headstock face from the larger original tuner bushings. The electronics include an original T Top humbucker pair with patent number-embossed baseplates and clean ink stamps from 1980. The harness has untouched solder joints, featuring the quartet of original CTS pots with date codes from the 27th week of '79. The chrome plating on the hardware is gleaming, and stock plastics comprise the cream pickup rings, quartet of black speed knobs, switch surround, and pickguard. The gloss Tobacco Sunburst nitro lacquer finish is 100% original with no touch-up or overspray, and the top presents extremely well with a rich, unfaded color and well-matched seams. There is pick scuffing across the strum path extending to the bass-side waist and towards the knobs, along with light buckle rash across the back and some additional dings and light finish scratches consistent with use, largely relegated to the back and rims. The gloss is smooth and clean on the neck profile length. The original black tolex hardshell case with Gibson silkscreen on the lid is included.
