Up for sale, a 1979 Yasuyuki Abe Model No. 004 classical guitar in excellent condition, complete with the original hardshell case. Known for his unique, eye-catching designs and premium construction, Yasuyuki Abe studied in the workshops of Masaru “Ken” Kohno and Yoshimitsu Hoshino, two of the most influential and well-respected figures in Japanese classical luthiery. This Model No. 004 features asymmetrical eight-fan bracing on the spruce top in the style of early 20th century Spanish master luthiers Enrique Garcia and Francisco Simplicio, with unique cosmetic touches including an ornate green rosette and a rounded peghead.
Traditional tonewoods include a spruce top, rosewood back and sides, mahogany neck, and ebony fingerboard. This guitar has fantastic projection and punch, with a taut immediacy to the treble strings in particular, balanced by rumbling, airy lows and a touch of dynamic growl when rolled or strummed hard. This Abe Model No.004 weighs 3lbs 8oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with normal tension strings and ideal action.
Neck Specs:
-Wood: Mahogany
-Shape: D, measuring .935” 1st fret, .960” 9th fret
-Fretboard: Ebony
-Frets: Slender, leveled/crowned, no wear
-Scale Length: 652mm
-Nut: 53mm, scalloped bone
-Tuners: Engraved strip
Body Specs:
-Wood: Spruce, Indian rosewood
-Bracing: Asymmetrical Eight-fan
-Bridge: Rosewood, bone saddle
-Marquetry: Ornate green rosette, multi-ply purfling, rosewood binding
-Serialization: Label dated to 1979, signed by Yasuyuki Abe
This is a crack-free example, with cosmetic wear on the gloss lacquer finish limited to a handful of small dings on top, primarily concentrated on the bridge, and some faint finish scratches on the back. The neck profile is smooth and clean save for a small cluster of shallow marks behind fret 6 that are not distracting to the palm while fretting.
The original hardshell case is included.
