Up for sale, a 1979 Yamaha Super Jam 800 (SJ-800) in exceptional condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Produced from 1978-83, this rare Japanese-made Yamaha features a unique blend of Fender-style aesthetics and functionality, featuring an alder body with a birdseye maple cap, a one-piece maple neck, and an HS pickup pair.
This first-year example has an immediate, detailed acoustic response with smooth sustain, qualities faithfully captured by the pickup complement. The J1 single coil in the bridge position has ample sparkle and twang, and the G11 humbucker in the neck position is an ideal combination of heft, roundness, and top-end clarity. Additionally, the push-button coil tap for the humbucker enables single coil throatiness and bell-like smoothness when engaged.
