Up for sale, a 1979 Tokai Silver Star S-Style vintage electric guitar in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original gigbag. One of the more popular "lawsuit" vintage guitar brands, Tokai is known for making faithful iterations of favored USA models, and this Silver Star Strat is no exception. The tonewood complement includes an ash body and one-piece maple neck, channeling a natural glassy treble snap and midrange-rich punch through the gray bobbin pickup complement. The pickups have a chewy cut and sparkle, with a round-sounding neck pickup and plenty of biting twang in the bridge position. The guitar weighs 8lbs 2oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
The maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with moderate shoulder and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .835” deep at the 1st fret and .905” at the 12th. The maple fretboard features dot inlay and stock fretwire just shy of medium jumbo. The frets have good height and meat with virtually no wear, and the guitar plays cleanly in every register with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The scale length is a full 25 1/2”, while the nut measures 1 9/16“ in width. The large Strat headstock features a block Silver Star logo, bullet truss rod, and set of chrome tuners that mimic Fender's F-style gears, turning smoothly and holding pitch well.
The electronics work as should with the original trio of gray bobbin pickups, full-size pots, and a five-way pickup selector switch. The pickups feature upgraded cloth leads, and all meter at just under 6k ohms, with clear, balanced tone in every pickup position. The stock knobs and switch tip show uniform aging, while the pickup covers and pickguard are modern upgrades. The vibrato actuates easily for quick flutters and deeper dives with block saddles and a modern vibrato arm. Cosmetic wear includes a few tiny finish chips, minor dings and faint finish scratches, mostly relegated to the body perimeter. The neck profile sports a clean original gloss finish with just a couple light marks that are not distracting to the palm while fretting.
The original Tokai faux leather gigbag is included.
