1979 Roland SH-2 Vintage Monophonic Analog Synthesizer, Serviced

+ shipping

Up for sale, a 1979 Roland SH-2 synthesizer in excellent condition and in perfect working order, freshly serviced by Synapse Audio Systems. Among the earliest Roland synths, this SH-2 is pure, no-frills analog goodness, featuring two VCOs (with the classic SH-style sub-oscillator) for a notably fat sound. Exceedingly influential in the monophonic synth world, the SH-2 has been utilized by artists including Duran Duran and Eurythmics.

The bass frequencies are super punchy and full, and toggling into the upper octaves yields squelchy leads. Both oscillators offer Saw, Square, and PWM variable pulse waveforms, with a Sine at VCO-1 and a Noise setting at VCO-2, and the square wave sub-oscillator at VCO-1 fills out the sonic foundation. The second VCO can be switched between narrow and wide for fifth and tenth-based “chords.” The Audio Mixer section is a very useful control, enabling the user to blend the VCOs and VCO-1 Sub levels independently, opening up a vast array of possible tonalities. The LFO has Sine, Square and Sample & Hold functionality, with Rate and Delay Time controls.

All of the original sliders and knobs are intact, and while there are some scratches on the top of the enclosure, the silkscreen graphics are very clean. All 37 keys have great action and bounce, as does the Bender wheel. Further cosmetic wear on this SH-2 is limited to a handful of minor marks on the unit as a whole.
