Up for sale, a 1979 Martin D-18 dreadnought acoustic guitar in excellent condition, complete with the original hardshell case. Boasting a solid Sitka spruce top and solid mahogany back and sides, this Martin benefits from a fresh neck reset, retaining the original nut and saddle.

The instrument delivers tons of volume and projection, with a distinctive woody percussive cut and dryness to the tone not always afforded a dreadnought with mahogany back and sides. The trebles are particularly sparkling, with a tailored midrange and excellent string-to-string presence and clarity. The bass register can achieve a smooth growl when played with authority, but offers more low midrange than deep bass, contributing to the instrument’s clarity. This Martin weighs 4lbs 8oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 12-54 bronze strings and easy-playing action.

The mahogany neck has a full-feeling profile carve akin to what Martin describes in modern nomenclature as their “full thickness” shape, splitting the difference between a U-shaped carve and a very soft V, with round shoulders in every register. The profile measures .865" deep at the 1st fret and .990" at the 9th. The rosewood fretboard features slender fretwire that has good height and well-rounded crowns, showing just a touch of wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3. The guitar plays cleanly up the 25.4" scale with a straight neck. The original nut measures 1 11/16" in width. The headstock features a rosewood veneer on the face, with a clean Martin logo and a set of original Grover Rotomatic tuning machines with clean chrome plating and a very smooth response.

The rosewood bridge sits flush with the top on all edges, retaining its original bridge plate and saddle. The saddle has good height, and the neck has just been freshly reset, ensuring decades of easy playability. A new black pickguard sits flush with the top.

The finish is original and framed by black Boltaron binding on the top and back. There is only one cleanly repaired split on the bass-side rim on the lower bout, with a small amount of targeted touchup in this area. The top, back and sides are otherwise crack-free. Cosmetic wear is limited to heavy strum wear on both sides of the soundhole (but particularly on the bass-side), and a bit of light scuffing in the clear coat on the back.

The original Martin molded black hardshell case is included.
