Up for sale, a 1979 Gibson Les Paul Standard with Zakk Wylde “Red Bullseye”-inspired mods. This genuine vintage Les Paul Standard has been modified as an exceedingly faithful recreation of Zakk Wylde’s “Red Bullseye” Les Paul, made famous during Wylde’s early years with Ozzy Osbourne, including prominent usage in the recording of No Rest for the Wicked and No More Tears (and during many live shows of the era). This exacting recreation of that modified Norlin-era instrument sports a custom Red Bullseye paint job over the exposed curly maple top, outfitted with gold hardware, jumbo fretwire, and a pair of EMG active pickups.
Weighing 10lbs 3oz, tonewoods include a solid (non-sandwich) mahogany body, carved curly maple cap, three-piece mahogany neck, and bound ebony fingerboard. The active EMG pickup pair includes an 85 humbucker at the bridge and an 81 at the neck: utilizing powerful ceramic magnets and close aperture coils, the EMG 81 was engineered so that lead work will slice through even the densest mix, and the Alnico V magnet EMG 85 delivers optimal note detail with incredible high end cut and smooth, fluid sustain. This Zakk Wylde “Red Bullseye” Les Paul Standard has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action and accurate intonation.
Neck Specs:
-Wood: Mahogany (three-piece)
-Shape: Slender C, measuring .795” 1st fret, .965” 12th fret
-Fretboard: Rosewood, pearl flared trapezoid inlays
-Frets: Jumbo, refret, no wear
-Scale Length: 24 3/4”
-Nut: 1 11/16”
-Tuners: Grover Rotomatics (replacement, gold-plated)
-Serialization: Eight digit stamp dates to ‘79
Body Specs:
-Wood: Maple, Mahogany
-Pickups: EMG 85 (B), 81 (N)
-Harness: EMG pickups powered by 9V battery
-Hardware: Nashville bridge, stopbar (gold-plated)
-Plastics: Gold reflector cap knobs, cream switch tip
The gloss custom Red Bullseye finish on top exhibits subtle checking, with the original Cherry Sunburst nitro lacquer preserved on the back and sides of the body, as well as on both sides of the headstock. There’s one small shallow finish chip adjacent to the pickup selector switch, an area of light buckle scuffing central to the back, and a few minor dings on the lower bout. The neck profile has been refinished with a flawless nitro gloss save for one small nick behind the 6th fret that doesn’t distract the palm.
A circa 1990s Gibson USA brown tolex hardshell case is included, and all latches are functional save for the central lock.
