Up for sale, a 1979 Fernandes FSA-60 335-style vintage electric guitar, upgraded with genuine USA Gibson Burstbucker 3 PAF humbuckers. A rare and early Fernandes-branded model manufactured by Tokai in Japan, this faithful spin on Gibson's thinline ES-335 platform boasts maple body construction with a solid mahogany center block, a maple neck, and a bound rosewood fingerboard with small block inlay and medium jumbo fretwire.
The natural acoustic tone of the instrument is clear and balanced, and the Burstbucker 3 PAFs are the hottest wound of Gibson's Burstbucker lineup. Faithful to vintage spec with Alnico II magnets and two-conductor braided wire, the Burstbucker 3 offers both vintage-style clarity and rich growl. This Fernandes weighs 8lbs 7oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
The three-piece maple neck has some light figuring, particularly on the treble-side third, with a slender C-shaped profile carve at the nut and a bit more shoulder and heft further up the fretboard, measuring .800" deep at the 1st fret and .910" at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard features original medium jumbo fretwire with good meat and fret-edge binding, showing only light wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-6. The guitar plays well up the 24 3/4" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The bone nut measures 1 9/16" in width, and the headstock features original double ring Kluson-style tuners with uniform surface patina. The neck has also been reset in the guitar's lifetime, meeting the body at an ideal angle with some additional clear touchup around the joint.
The electronics all function as intended, with the Gibson Burstbucker 3 PAF humbuckers wired to a traditional control array with dedicated Volume and Tone knobs for each pickup and a three-way pickup selector toggle. Hardware includes the original nickel-plated Nashville-style bridge and stopbar, both of which show uniform surface patina. Plastics include a modern set of black bonnet knobs and an original pickguard. The vibrant Cherry gloss finish is framed by deeply ambered body binding which shows extensive checking and some additional stabilization of the binding at the body waist. There is a small spot of light buckle rash central to the back, pick scuffing across the guard, and just a few additional minor marks on the body as a whole. The gloss finish on the neck profile is clean and smooth.
