Up for sale, a 1979 Fender Stratocaster Hardtail in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original molded hardshell case. This quintessential late ‘70s Strat features an ash body with shallow contours, a deep U-shaped neck profile, sleek gloss Black finish with all-black plastics, gray bobbin single coil pickups, and a hardtail bridge with block saddles.
Naturally resonant at 9lbs 15oz, this Strat offers great natural midrange and a lively, broad frequency cut, with the added sustain and overall stability of the hardtail bridge. The flat pole alnico magnet pickups are notably jangly and sparkling, particularly at the bridge and the “in-between” settings on the five-way switch, which yield a slinky quack and cut. The neck pickup has a fuller bark and a smooth treble response. This Stratocaster Hardtail has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
Neck Specs:
-Wood: Maple
-Shape: Deep U, measuring .925” 1st fret, .960” 12th fret
-Fretboard: Maple, 7 1/4” radius
-Frets: Slender, leveled/crowned, no wear
-Scale Length: 25 1/2”
-Nut: 1 9/16” (replacement)
-Tuners: F-stamped (Schaller-made)
-Serialization: S9-prefix (peghead)
Body Specs:
-Wood: Ash
-Pickups: Gray bobbin single coil x3, 1979 date stamps on bobbins
-Harness: Untouched solder, CTS pots date to ‘79, ceramic tone cap
-Controls: Volume, Tone x2, Five-way pickup selector
-Hardware: Hardtail bridge with block saddles, jack cup
-Plastics: Three-ply black pickguard, black knobs/pickup covers
The gloss Black finish presents very cleanly, with a bit of shallow buckle worming central to the back, faint pick scuffing on top, and just a few lesser nicks and finish scratches on the rest of the body, concentrated at the lower bout. The gloss on the neck profile is smooth and clean, with a few shallow dings behind frets 7-10 that are not distracting to the palm while fretting.
The original molded hardshell case is included.
