Up for sale, a circa 1978 Yamaha SA2000 in near-mint condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. One of the best examples of premium Japanese craftsmanship put to the task of improving upon American design, the SA2000 uses Gibson's upscale ES models as a template.
Weighing 8lbs 12oz, this SA2000’s semi-hollow body features birch/beech construction with a hybrid maple/spruce centerblock, paired with a one-piece mahogany neck capped with a bound ebony fretboard for a tonewood combination that's full-sounding, airy, articulate, and versatile. The humbuckers are rich and detailed, with tight lows and sweet, singing trebles that result in vocal-like lead passages and well-defined complex chording. This SA2000 benefits from a professional setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
Neck Specs:
-Wood: Mahogany
-Shape: Medium C, measuring .830” 1st fret, .995” 12th fret
-Fretboard: Ebony, mother of pearl split-block inlays
-Frets: Medium jumbo, faint wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-7
-Scale Length: 24 3/4”
-Nut: 1 11/16”, bone
-Tuners: “Yamaha Japan,” sealed
-Serialization: Six-digit stamp dates to ‘79
Body Specs:
-Wood: Birch/Beech (maple/spruce centerblock)
-Pickups: “Mic-Humbucking” pickup x2
-Controls: Volume x2, Tone x2, Three-way pickup selector
-Hardware: Tune-o-matic bridge, lyre-stamped stopbar
-Plastics: Two-ply black pickguard, gold reflector cap knobs
The gloss Brown Sunburst finish shows a few minor dings and finish scratches on the back, while the top presents cleanly with light patina on the gold-plated hardware. The gloss on the neck profile has only a few shallow marks on the profile length.
The original hardshell case is included.
