Up for sale, a 1978 Martin D-28 dreadnought acoustic guitar in exceptional condition, complete with the original hardshell case. This crack-free Martin has been extremely well-kept over the last 40+ years and features solid East Indian rosewood back and sides paired with a solid Sitka spruce top that has cured to perfection. The guitar projects easily with tons of volume and a snappy yet relaxed response afforded a top that’s been nicely worked in for a few decades. This D-28 has Martin's distinctive square shoulder dreadnought sound with great percussive cut and a bold, full-sounding character. The string-to-string response is very even, attributable to the body shape and tonewoods, and the guitar offers bold low end with good kick, not overshadowing the sparkling treble register and smooth midrange. The guitar weighs 4lbs 12oz. Freshly restrung with 12-54 bronze strings, this Martin has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with comfortable action. The mahogany neck has a rounded C shaped profile carve with modest shoulder, almost inferring a very soft V, measuring .850" deep at the 1st fret, graduating to .970" at the 9th. The guitar boasts a slab ebony fretboard which adds to the top end chime and note attack, and the original slender frets are remarkably clean with well-rounded crowns and their full factory height, showing just a hint of wear beneath B and High E strings on frets 1-2. With 14 frets clear of the body, this D-28 has Martin's traditional 25.4" scale length and the original nut measures 1 11/16" in width. On the headstock face, the original gold Martin logo is present on the rosewood veneer, and the original Grover Rotomatic tuning machines turn smoothly and hold pitch well. The guitar benefits from a fresh neck reset, and the ebony bridge boasts a tall drop-in carved bone saddle. The original rosewood bridge plate has also been retained, and the original black pickguard sits flush with the top without putting undue tension on the spruce, exhibiting a bit of light requisite pick scuffing. The body is crack-free and the guitar is exceedingly well-kept. The original nitro lacquer finish has a mirrored gloss sheen, and wear is limited to faint lacquer checking on the upper bout, a few minor marks on the lower bout, and a few minor finish scratches in the gloss finish on the bookmatched rosewood back and sides. The finish on the neck profile is extremely clean and free of palm wear. The original black molded Martin hardshell case is included.
