Up for sale, a 1978 Ibanez Professional Series Bob Weir signature model 2681 in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with a hardshell case. This Pro Series Ibanez was crafted at the Fujigen factory from 1976-80, designed in conjunction with the Grateful Dead guitarist, featuring a pair of Maxon Super 80 “Flying Fingers” humbuckers, set-neck construction, a German carved top, a Gibraltar bridge/tailpiece with brass sustain block insert, and a Tree of Life-style vine inlay on the fingerboard (differentiating this upper-tiered model from the standard Bob Weir 2680).
Tonewoods include an ash body with a bound, carved ash top and a three-piece rock maple neck capped with a bound 22-fret ebony fingerboard, and this 2681 weighs 9lbs 13oz. The natural acoustic response is clear and detailed with a glassy treble attack, rich midrange cut and focused lows, plus plenty of sustain and sonic authority further accentuated via the sustain block insert. The Maxon Super 80 “Flying Fingers” humbuckers are among the most celebrated Japanese humbuckers ever created, designed in the vein of a PAF and perfect for everything from articulate cleans to harmonically complex overdriven leads. These pickups are sensitive to pick attack, with plenty of treble clarity, wax potted for ideal feedback rejection in higher gain scenarios. This 2681 has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

The gloss Natural finish is framed on top by abalone purling and multi-ply binding which exhibits wear very common with Ibanez binding in this era including checking, stabilized splits and small areas of deterioration, most prominent at the cutaways. Beyond the binding, cosmetic wear is limited to a few small chips along the lower bout perimeter and some faint finish scratches. The neck profile retains its smooth gloss, with only one small mark behind fret 12.
A modern (oversized) Ibanez hardshell case is included.
