Up for sale, a 1978 Guild F-50, complete with a hardshell case. Crafted at Guild’s Westerly, RI factory, this jumbo bodied acoustic features a solid Sitka spruce top, curly maple back/sides, maple neck, and bound ebony fingerboard, finished in Blonde gloss nitro lacquer and benefitting from a professional neck reset.
This F-50 Standard measures 17" wide across the lower bout, offering bold projection with plenty of muscle, excellent string-to-string definition and snappy note attack. The low end has a broad, relaxed quality, and the overarching sound has the detail and rubbery treble cut of maple, tempered by a top that’s had almost a half century to open up and offer a smooth, woody character. This F-50 weighs 6lbs 9oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 12-53 bronze strings and easy-playing action.
Neck Specs:
-Wood: Maple (two-piece, walnut stringer)
-Shape: Chunky C, measuring .885” 1st fret, 1.010” 9th fret
-Fretboard: Ebony, abalone/pearl block inlays
-Frets: Medium jumbo, leveled/crowned, light wear on frets 1-7
-Scale Length: 25 1/2”
-Nut: 1 11/16” (replacement)
-Tuners: Schaller (Guild-branded)
-Serialization: Six-digit stamp dates to ‘78
Body Specs:
-Wood: Sitka spruce, curly maple
-Bracing: X (straight)
-Bridge: Ebony, compensated bone saddle (upgraded), replacement low E bridge pin (original included)
-Label: Serialized, Westerly, RI
-Marquetry: Multi-ply binding and rosette
The gloss Blonde nitro lacquer finish is 100% original with no touch-up or overspray, exhibiting vertical checking and minor chipping along the binding and at the neck heel. Further cosmetic wear is limited to one ding on top at the bass-side lower bout, minor scuffs on the rims, and various lesser nicks consistent with use. The gloss on the neck profile exhibits a few shallow marks that have been buffed smooth and are not distracting to the palm while fretting, and a piece of binding is missing from the treble side headstock edge.
A hardshell case is included.
