Up for sale, a 1978 Greco SA-700 in excellent condition and in perfect working order, upgraded with Seymour Duncan Antiquity humbuckers and Gibson Deluxe tuning machines. An early upscale Greco model produced at the Fujigen factory in Japan, this thinline ES model is an amalgam of Gibson features. The guitar has white sycamore semi-hollowbody construction with a full maple centerblock, distinctive rounded “Mickey Mouse" body horns and a three-piece maple neck capped by a genuine ebony fretboard.Acoustically, this guitar is bright and airy, with an inherent resonance and warmth faithfully captured by the upgraded Seymour Duncan Antiquity humbuckers. These humbuckers are painstakingly crafted to recreate the warm, responsive tones of the original PAF, with tight low end; pristine, sparkling highs; and slightly scooped midrange for optimal clarity and balance. The bridge pickup is wound slightly hotter, with more growl and cut, while the neck has a bell-like fullness. This guitar weighs 8lbs 3oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with fresh 10-46 strings, low action and accurate intonation. The three-piece maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with full, inviting shoulders, measuring .815” deep at the 1st fret and .915” at the 12th. The ebony fretboard has a 12” radius, featuring pearloid block inlays and fret-edge binding on the medium jumbo fretwire. The frets have been recently dressed, with wide/low crowns. The guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The stock bone nut measures 1 11/16” in width. The headstock has the iconic “open book” shape, crown inlay and bell-shaped truss rod cover, and the upgraded set of Gibson Deluxe double line Kluson-style tuners turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The H78-prefix serial on the back of the headstock dates to August, 1978.All of the electronics work as intended, and the Seymour Duncan Antiquity humbuckers have their factory stickers and signatures on the baseplates, complete with aged nickel covers. Controls include a three-way pickup selector switch and individual Volume and Tone controls for each pickup capped with the original witch hat knobs. Hardware includes the ABR-1-style bridge and corresponding stopbar. The original serialized orange oval label is visible through the F hole. The finish splits the difference between a dark Cherry and vibrant Wine Red, and the body features new ambered top and back binding (the original Greco binding in this era has a tendency for off-gassing and disintegration over time). There are a few slivers of finish adjacent to the binding where the off-gassing caused some finish wear, and a few small chips in the clear coat over the new binding as well. Cosmetic wear is otherwise limited to some scuffing on the treble side of the strum path and a few minor finish scratches and marks on the body as a whole. The gloss finish on the neck profile is clean and smooth.A Noah’s Ark-brand heavily padded gigbag is included.
