Up for sale, a 1978 Greco EXB900 Explorer Bass in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. An extremely rare bass offered by Greco in the late 70s, this Explorer-shaped bass features a PJ pickup complement and Alpine White gloss finish. The unique, industrial-looking “staple” bridge pickup has a black metal cover and surround, paired with a more traditional split coil P-style pickup in the neck position. Coupled to a three-way pickup selector and Volume/Volume/Tone control array, these pickups provide a great range of tones with more accentuated midrange and treble detail from the bridge pickup, which also retains a breadth not always attributed to this pickup position. The P pickup has a smooth warmth and good articulation, providing plenty of thump with the Tone control rolled back to taste. The bass weighs 9lbs 6oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 45-100 strings, comfortable action, and accurate intonation. The neck has a round, substantial C-shaped profile with full, inviting shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .850" deep at the 1st fret and .965" at the 12th. On the extremely dark slab rosewood fretboard, the jumbo fretwire has plenty of meat and crown, showing virtually no wear. The bass plays easily up the 34" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures a full 1 3/4" in width, and the headstock features heavy-duty chrome-plated tuning machines that turn smoothly. The electronics function as intended, with untouched solder joints, a factory shielded control cavity, and Maxon date stamp on the bottom of the bridge pickup from 1978. Hardware includes the three-point Gibson-style chrome bridge, and plastics comprise the original three-ply pickguard and trio of black speed knobs. The gloss finish is akin to Gibson's Alpine White, with a gentle yellowing of the clear coat. Cosmetic wear is limited to light pick wear across the guard, and just a few light finish scratches and very minor marks on the body as a whole. The original black tolex hardshell case with green form-fit interior is included.
