Up for sale, a 1978 Fender Telecaster in excellent condition and in perfect working order, 100% original save for a replacement nut, and complete with the original hardshell case. This Telecaster boasts a solid ash body and one-piece maple neck with a slender, fast-feeling profile carve. Acoustically, the guitar has a smooth, snappy tone with a nice midrange kick that’s present yet not too pronounced. The original single coils offer an array of classic Tele tonalities, with a biting, clear bridge pickup that equal parts chewy twang, complex midrange, and taut, sinewy low end. The neck pickup has a smooth, rich sound that's still sparkling and clear. Weighing 9lbs 13oz, this Telecaster has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
The maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with moderate shoulder and a hair more overall heft as you travel up the fingerboard, measuring .810" deep at the 1st fret and .920" at the 12th. The smooth gloss on the neck profile is quite clean, with very faint palm wear along the fretboard edges down to the bare maple. The maple fretboard retains the original slender fretwire, showing light, uniform wear beneath the strings on frets 1-3, with wear extending beneath the plain strings and growing fainter until fret 8. The guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2" scale, and the neck is straight with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 5/8" in width, and the headstock is fitted with the original Schaller-made Fender F tuners with bright chrome plating. The S8-prefix serial number is also present on the headstock face, matching the serialized sticker present in the neck pocket.
The electronics are 100% original, with untouched solder joints, original pickups, and 1Meg CTS pots. The neck pickup has a black bobbin, while the bridge pickup is a gray bobbin variety with brass baseplate and staggered alnico poles. Hardware includes a bridge with clean plating on the base and barrel saddles, as well as a clean control plate and pair of flat-topped knurled knobs which show light patina.
The Olympic White gloss finish is 100% original with no touchup or overspray, gracefully yellowed on the top and back, with additional ambering on the body perimeter and one faint square sticker tan line on the back. Cosmetic wear is otherwise limited to some strap-related discoloration near the rear strap button, some minor marks on the body as a whole, largely clustered on the back lower bout body edge and perimeter, and pick scuffing across the guard.
The original black tolex hardshell case is included and extremely clean with black leather ends, functional latches, the original handle, and raised Fender logo on the lid. A presumably original (era correct) strap is also present.
