Up for sale, a 1978 Fender Telecaster in excellent condition and in perfect working order, modified with a pair of Seymour Duncan Antiquity PAF humbuckers. Building on the platform of a genuine vintage Fender Tele from '78, this ash-bodied instrument delivers this tonewood's midrange complexity and clear note attack, while the maple neck ensures a glassy treble snap. The instrument weighs a particularly robust 10lbs, meant to be played hard, with a punch and sustain not typically afforded a Fender. The Seymour Antiquity PAF pair utilizes vintage-spec aged Alnico II magnet construction. The neck position has an articulate, mellow quality, combining a sweet treble attack with a full sounding low-end. The custom aged bar magnet creates an airy openness to the top-end that gives chords clarity, while the vintage-style wind on the coils offers rich harmonic content. The bridge pickup has treble cut without being overly bright, while low notes have a growl and spongy vintage warmth. We've had this Telecaster dialed in here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action and accurate intonation. The maple neck has a chunky U-shaped profile carve with very full shoulders and rolled fretboard edges, measuring .865" deep at the 1st fret and .920" at the 12th. The fretboard retains its original 7 1/4" radius, and the board has been refretted with slender, vintage-spec fretwire, exhibiting moderate wear on the crowns of frets 1-5, with lighter wear extending beneath the plain strings until fret 8. The guitar plays cleanly in every register up the 25 1/2" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The upgraded unbleached hand-carved bone nut ensures optimal note clarity and sustain, measuring 1 9/16" in width. The headstock face retains the original finish and Telecaster logo, and the guitar has been fitted with a modern set of Kluson-style tuners which turn smoothly. In the neck pocket, the original serialized sticker is present, matching the serial on the headstock face. All of the electronics function as intended, with the Seymour Duncan Antiquity PAF humbuckers wired to modern CTS pots and a three-way Switchcraft pickup selector toggle. The aftermarket humbucker routing is covered by a custom-made single-ply pickguard and pair of Gibson-style humbucker rings. The original bridge plate has also been cut to accommodate the humbucker mod and outfitted with a trio of brass saddles, and the original control plate and flat-topped knurled knobs round out the hardware. The three-piece ash body has its original aged transparent Blonde finish, and both the grain of the ash body and some uncommon quilt figuring in the wood is visible through the gloss. Cosmetic wear includes a few small nicks on the body perimeter, forearm wear through the gloss on the bass-side edge on top and a few light finish scratches on the back, mostly clustered at the bass-side waist. There is also some very subtle texturing of the finish on top behind the bridge from prolonged contact with a strap. The neck profile and fingerboard have been refinished in a gloss finish, which is smooth and clean along the profile length.A padded Fender-branded gigbag is included.
