Up for sale, a 1978 Fender Telecaster Deluxe in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. 100% original save for a professional refret and carved bone nut, this Fender features an ash body and pair of original Seth Lover-designed Wide Range Humbuckers.

As the architect of the original Gibson "PAF" humbucker, Seth Lover subsequently made his mark on Fender with the Wide Range pickup, a unique oversized humbucker constructed using individually slotted and threaded pole pieces made from CuNiFe (copper-nickel-iron) magnets. The result is a pickup that has Fender's signature sparkle and cut, yet with the added warmth and fullness of a humbucker. This Telecaster is a punchy, powerful-sounding instrument with the notable clarity and percussive power of this pickup design and the midrange presence of ash as a tonewood. This Tele weighs 8lbs, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with fresh 10-46 strings, easy-playing action and accurate intonation.

The maple neck has a substantial U-shaped profile carve with generous shoulder and light palm wear through the gloss on the fretboard edges, measuring .885" deep at the 1st fret and .945" at the 12th. The maple fretboard has been refretted with jumbo fretwire, and the current frets have been freshly dressed, showing sparingly little wear. The guitar plays cleanly in every register up the 25 1/2" scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The upgraded hand-carved bone nut measures 1 9/16" in width, and the deeply ambered headstock retains the original Fender-branded Schaller-made chrome tuning machines. Unique among Fender neck codes, the neck heel has a faded "Tele Deluxe" heel stamp only seen on this model.

All of the electronics work as intended, with untouched solder joints, CTS pots and blue molded tone caps. The S8-prefix serial sticker is present on the back of the pickguard, matching the serial on the headstock face, and the original date stamps on the baseplates of the Wide Range humbuckers date to '78. All of the original hardware is present including the six saddle bridge with clean chrome plating, and plastics comprise the original three-ply pickguard and a quartet of original Strat-style knobs.

The original Black gloss finish exhibits forearm wear through the gloss on the bass-side lower bout body edge and a similar sliver of wear down to the bare ash on the back adjacent to the input jack. There are a few finish chips on the body perimeter, buckle rash central to the back, and various additional finish scratches and marks, with one area on the upper bout (also on the back) where a case lining or strap caused a very subtle texturing in the clear coat. The gloss finish on the neck profile is very smooth.

The original black tolex hardshell case is included. The case features the raised Fender logo on the exterior, two functional latches, and the original handle.
