Up for sale, a 1978 Fender Telecaster Custom in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. A notably well-kept guitar with the original hardshell case, this Tele features a Natural gloss finish, highlighting the prominent grain of the solid ash body. The guitar has great midrange kick and complexity, with clear note attack and a glassy treble snap indicative of the combination of an ash body and one-piece maple neck. A perfect example of what makes these guitars beloved, this guitar blends the twang and sparkle of a classic Telecaster bridge pickup with the humbucker warmth of the Seth Lover-designed Fender "Wide Range" pickup in the neck position. A very clear and percussive sounding humbucker design with more shimmer and top end detail than most dual coil pickups, the Wide Range humbucker pairs very well with the bridge position single coil in terms of output, and the two pickups compliment each other very well when both are engaged. The guitar weighs 9lbs 10oz with ample natural sustain and power, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action and spot-on intonation thanks to the optional factory six-saddle bridge.

The maple neck has a modestly chunky C-shaped profile carve with less shoulder at the nut and significant roundness as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .865" deep at the 1st fret and .960" at the 12th. The maple fretboard retains the original slender frets which have good meat, showing only light wear primarily beneath the plain strings on frets 1-6. The guitar plays well up the 25 1/2" scale, and the neck is straight with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 5/8" in width, and the headstock sports the original Fender "F" tuning machines which turn smoothly and hold pitch well with gleaming chrome plating.

On the body, all of the electronics work as they should, with untouched solder joints and original CTS pots which date back to the 44th week of '76. The Wide Range humbucker also retains its factory date stamp from '78 on the baseplate, and the S8-prefix serial sticker on the underside of the pickguard matches the serial on the headstock. The original hardware includes the Fender stamped chrome six saddle bridge (a factory option at the time), complete with the original "ashtray" cover. There is prominent pick scuffing across the guard and through the chrome plating on the treble side of the Wide Range cover. Cosmetic wear on the gloss Natural finish is limited to one line of finish checking on the lower bout on top, one small spot of light buckle rash just forward of the string ferrules, and just a few additional minor marks on the body as a whole.

The original black tolex Fender hardshell case is included. The case features clean black leather ends, a trio of original functional latches, stock handle, and raised Fender logo on the exterior.
