Up for sale, a 1977 Maestro EP-3 Echoplex in exceptional, 100% original condition, freshly serviced and complete with the original footswitch. Introduced at the beginning of the 1970s as a solid state version of the previous tube EP-2, the EP-3 has been referred to as the “sound of the ‘70s” and was used extensively by artists including Eddie Van Halen, Jimmy Page, and Brian May, delivering quintessentially warm, organic-sounding echo.
Beyond its exceptional echo, the Echoplex is also widely favored for its preamp capabilities, with the natural richness of the tone perfect for “always on” usage, and the Echoplex can be toggled between Echo and Sound-on-Sound modes. The circuit in this particular unit is clean and 100% original, with all pots and jacks professionally cleaned, as well as the tape path and heads, and the solenoid has been exercised to ensure optimal functionality. The original CTS pots date to 1976, and there are ‘77 date stamps on the capacitors. The range of the Echo Delay slider goes from 0-35, roughly corresponding to about 80-800ms.
Cosmetic touches include black tolex, textured control plate, Maestro Echoplex badge, and red recording LED. The original pair of late ‘70s-style knobs are present, the tape information label is present and very clean, the original schematic is intact on the inside of the lid, and the serialized foil sticker is present beneath the Echo Delay slider. Cosmetic wear on the unit is limited to a handful of minor marks and scuffs on the outside of the enclosure. The original handle is missing, but the hinges and latch are present.
The original footswitch is included.
