1977 Greco Standard EG450 Vintage Electric Guitar Cherry Sunburst w/ Maxon Pickups, Japan Fujigen

+ shipping

Up for sale, a 1977 Greco LP Standard model EG450 in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Produced at the Fujigen factory in Japan, and first seen in the '78 catalog, this very early iteration of the EG450 platform features a birch laminate top over a "sandwich" mahogany body, and a maple neck capped with a dark bound rosewood fretboard. Via the original pair of Maxon-made "UD" humbuckers, the tone is detailed and rich, with plenty of definition and power from the bridge pickup, and more warmth and fullness in the neck position. This guitar weighs 8lbs 4oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with fresh 10-46 strings, low action and spot-on intonation.

The maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with well-rounded shoulders, measuring .820” deep at the 1st fret and .915” at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard has a 12” radius and features pearloid trapezoid inlay and pristine original medium jumbo fretwire. The guitar plays cleanly in all registers with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. In line with traditional Gibson spec, the scale length is 24 3/4” and the bone nut measures 1 11/16” in width. The headstock has the iconic “open book” shape, Greco logo inlay, and “Standard” truss rod cover. The upgraded set of Wilkinson Deluxe Kluson-style double line tuners turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch with greened keystone buttons. The D77-prefix serial number on the back of the headstock dates production to April, 1977.

On the body, all of the electronics work as they should, with untouched solder joints, original full-size Japanese pots and green chicklet capacitors. The pickups feature braided leads, just like their Gibson equivalents, and the baseplates have stamps that date to '77. The LP-style control array includes a three-way pickup selector toggle and dedicated Volume and Tone knobs for each pickup. The chrome plating on the hardware is bright and clean, and there is light patina across the Nashville-style Tune-o-Matic bridge and corresponding stopbar. All original plastics are accounted for and notably well-kept including the quartet of gold reflector cap knobs, pickup rings, switch surround, and single-ply pickguard.

The Cherry Sunburst gloss is rich and saturated, and the top presents very well with just a scant few microscopic scratches and dings, The back and body perimeter exhibit a number of chips and marks, with some lighter finish scratches on the back and one particular scratch of note central to the back. The gloss finish on the neck profile is immaculate.

A brown faux leather gigbag is included.
