Up for sale, a 1977 Greco model EG700 in excellent condition and in perfect working order. An early, upper-tiered example produced at the venerable Fujigen factory in Japan, this early Greco takes a page from Gibson's late 1970s playbook.Tonewoods include a two-piece carved maple top over a mahogany body, and a three-piece maple neck capped with a rosewood fingerboard. At 9lbs 10oz, this Greco dishes out plenty of natural sustain and sonic authority, qualities that are translated faithfully through the pair of original Maxon-made U-2000 humbuckers. These pickups are dynamic and clear, with an authoritative growl and cut in the bridge position, while the neck pickup is smooth and round. This EG700 has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action and spot-on intonation. The maple neck has a slender 60s-style C-shaped profile carve, measuring .810” deep at the 1st fret and .915” at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard has a 12” radius and features pearloid trapezoid inlays, with fret-edge binding and stock medium jumbo fretwire. The frets are in great shape; with plenty of meat and well-rounded crowns, only showing light wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-8. This Greco plays cleanly up the 24 3/4” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The stock bone nut measures 1 11/16 “ in width. The headstock sports the iconic “open book” shape, Greco inlay, and “Standard” truss rod cover. The Rotomatic-style tuners turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch, with clean chrome plating. The A77-prefix serial on the back of the headstock dates to January, 1977.On the body, all of the electronics work as they should, with original full-size Japanese pots and green chicklet capacitors. The pickups feature braided leads, just like their Gibson equivalents, and the baseplates have stamps that date to '76. The LP-style control array includes a three-way pickup selector toggle and dedicated Volume and Tone knobs for each pickup. The chrome plating on the hardware is bright and clean, including the stopbar and pickup covers, while the nickel-plated ABR-1-style bridge is a later substitution that matches Gibson/Greco spec. Plastics comprise cream pickup rings and switch tip, with a quartet of amber bonnet knobs. The Cherry Sunburst gloss finish is bright and bold, highlighting the dynamic grain in the maple top and framed by cream binding. Cosmetic wear includes one small finish chip on the lower bout edge on top, and some additional small nicks and light finish scratches, largely relegated to the back and lower bout body edge. The smooth gloss finish on the neck profile is pristine.A gigbag is included.
