Up for sale, a 1977 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Tonewoods include a three-piece carved maple top finished in a rich Tobacco Sunburst, paired with a non-sandwich mahogany body and three-piece maple neck.
Tonally, the original mini humbuckers in this Les Paul deliver a round sound with great definition and punch. A perfect blend of humbucker and single coil tonalities, the mini hum's tonal properties are enhanced by the maple/mahogany body construction with both wooly bark and great treble cut. Acoustically, the instrument has a bold and articulate voice with no shortage of punch and sustain, and the instrument weighs 10lbs 3oz. The top end snaps and sparkles, while the bass register stays tight and focused, and each position on the three-way pickup selector is distinct and clear. We've had this Les Paul Deluxe professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 11-48 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
The three-piece maple neck has a slender, fast-feeling C-shaped profile carve at the nut with modest shoulder, gaining a bit more overall heft as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .815" deep at the 1st fret and .965" at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard features pearl trapezoid inlay, and the original medium jumbo frets have Gibson’s low/flat factory fret dress of the era, showing light, uniform wear on the crowns of frets 1-3, extending exclusively beneath the plain strings and growing fainter until fret 6. The guitar plays easily in every register with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut has been upgraded to a hand-carved piece of bone for optimal note clarity and sustain, measuring 1 11/16" in width. The headstock features a set of modern Kluson Deluxe double line, double ring tuners, perfectly matching the footprint of the originals and functioning reliably.
On the body, all of the electronics work as they should, with a wiring harness that retains all of the original CTS pots with untouched solder joints, dating to the 25th week of 1977. The mini humbuckers have patent number-embossed baseplates, with an ink stamp on the neck pickup baseplate from August 9th, 1977. The stock chrome hardware is particularly clean, including the Nashville bridge and corresponding stopbar. Plastics include the original cream pickguard, pickup rings, and switch surround, as well as a modern quartet of gold reflector cap knobs.
The Tobacco Sunburst nitro lacquer gloss finish is 100% original with no touchup or overspray, and the carved three-piece top has well-matched seams. The body binding has ambered, and cosmetic wear includes buckle rash across the back, while in contrast the top is extremely clean, exhibiting just a few small marks on the lower bout and a bit of isolated lacquer checking in this area. The neck profile retains its smooth, clean gloss, free of palm wear.
The original black tolex hardshell case with purple plush interior and clean Gibson silkscreen on the exterior is included.
