Up for sale, a 1977 Gibson Les Paul Custom in perfect working order with a rare maple fretboard. A visually striking iteration of the Custom ostensibly only offered from 1976-77 in small quantities, this guitar features a Natural gloss nitro lacquer finish and is 100% original save for the strap buttons.

The tonewood complement includes a three-piece carved maple top, non-sandwich mahogany body, three-piece maple neck, and bound maple fretboard. Weighing 10lbs 7oz with plenty of natural punch and sustain, the maple neck and fretboard increase the treble detail and aggressive cut of the instrument, qualities which translate faithfully through the original T-Top humbucker pair. All three pickup positions are distinct and full-sounding, with more snap and taut low end from the bridge pickup, while the neck pickup has ample oomph and thick roar. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, we've dialed in this Les Paul Custom with fresh 10-46 strings, spot-on intonation, and low action.

The three-piece maple neck has a very slender, fast-feeling C profile carve at the nut, with good shoulder in every register and more heft as you travel up the maple fretboard, measuring .785" deep at the 1st fret and .990" at the 12th. The fretboard boasts multi-ply binding and pearl block inlays, with sporadic finger wear through the nitro gloss on the fretboard from frets 1-12. The guitar retains the original jumbo fretwire with its flat/low factory fret dress, showing moderate, uniform wear on frets 1-3, with lighter wear primarily beneath the plain strings extending to fret 7. The guitar plays cleanly in every register with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The original nut measures 1 11/16" in width, and the headstock retains the original set of Schaller-made and Gibson-branded gold tuning machines with metal tulip buttons. On the back of the headstock, the guitar sports its original stickered serial number and volute.

The original electronics all function as intended, with the stock pair of T Top humbuckers which have patent number-embossed baseplates, untouched solder on the pickup covers, and small inked date stamps from May 2nd, 1977. The wiring harness retains a quartet of CTS pots which date back to '76. All of the plastic parts are stock as well, with reflector cap knobs, "Les Paul Custom" truss rod cover, pickguard, switch ring, and jack plate. The gold hardware also is all accounted for with plenty of shine and patina through the plating on the stopbar and edges of the bridge pickup in particular.

The gloss Natural nitro lacquer finish is 100% original and extremely clean on top, with well-matched seams on the maple cap. Cosmetic wear is limited to a spot of light buckle rash central to the back, a bit of light checking on the ambered binding, and just a few additional light finish scratches and marks on the body as a whole. The smooth nitro gloss on the profile shows very faint palm wear on the shoulders on frets 1-7.

The original black tolex hardshell case is included. The case is quite clean, with a silver "Gibson" silkscreen on the exterior, stock handle, and two functional latches.
