Up for sale, a 1976 Greco Super Sound model SE800 in excellent condition and in perfect working order. The predecessor of the Fender Japan JV Strats, the "Super Sound" models were at the very top of Greco's S-style range in '76, made in Japan at the famed Fujigen factory in the years prior to Fujigen Gakki signing their deal with Fender. This SE800 features an alder body and a one-piece maple neck, with a resonant, chiming acoustic profile faithfully captured by the stock trio of Maxon Excel black bobbin PU-100 single coil pickups. The pickups deliver an array of classic Strat tonalities via the three-way pickup selector switch, with cutting sparkle and spank at the bridge and throaty, bell-like chime at the neck. This Greco weighs 7lbs 12oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation. The one-piece maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with modest shoulder and faintly rolled fretboard edges, bordering on a very soft V-shape at the nut, measuring .845” deep at the 1st fret and .965” at the 12th. The maple fretboard has a vintage-spec 7 1/4“ radius and retains the stock slender frets which are remarkably clean, showing only a hint of wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1.650” (42mm) in width, carved from bone for optimal note clarity and sustain. On the headstock, the original nickel-plated tuning machines are intact and turn smoothly. The four-bolt neck plate is embossed with the SE800 model and the K76-prefix serial dates production to November, 1976.The original trio of Maxon-made Excel PU-100 black bobbin pickups are wired to a traditional Stratocaster control array and three-way pickup selector. The wiring harness retains one original pot, with two modern CTS 250k replacements. The original one-ply pickguard has aged to a shade of cream, with a chip just beyond the knobs (the guard is still stable via the original mounting screw in this area). The vibrato actuates smoothly with block saddles (one of which has been replaced) and the original arm.Cosmetic wear on the gloss Sunburst finish includes a number of chips and dings along the body perimeter, largely concentrated along the lower bout and at the bass-side waist, as well as a handful of faint scratches on the body as a whole. The smooth ambered gloss on the neck profile highlights very subtle flame figuring on the bass-side, with a scant few shallow marks along the profile length that have no impact on playability.A padded gigbag is included.
