Up for sale, a 1976 Greco S-55 in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. This Fujigen-built “lawsuit era” Greco faithfully captures the finer points of a Gibson ES-175D, featuring a pair of Maxon-made U-1000 humbuckers, zig-zag trapeze tailpiece, and split parallelogram inlay. This particular S-55 is notable for its spruce top, an upscale and uncommon non-catalog feature.
The instrument has a warm, broad tonal profile thanks to the fully hollow construction, with plenty of woody, percussive cut. The Maxon U-1000 humbuckers are wound in the vein of the original PAF: notes are sweet and bold, with great clarity and a touch of growl in the bridge position, and lots of breadth when flipped to the neck position humbucker, perfect for smooth, mellow Jazz tonalities. This S-55 weighs 7lbs 7oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 12-52 roundwound strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
