Out Of Stock
Up for sale, a 1976 Gibson Les Paul Custom in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. 100% original aside from a set of modern black speed knobs, this Custom has a glossy, saturated Wine Red finish, brighter than many examples and bordering on Cherry.

A great example of a '70s Gibson Les Paul, this Custom is loaded with the original T Top humbuckers and delivers plenty of punch and power, weighing 10lbs 8oz. The combination of a carved maple top and solid mahogany body deliver a classic Les Paul tonal profile, with the warmth and fullness of the mahogany balanced by the articulate top end and snappy attack provided by both the maple top and the ebony fretboard. All three pickup positions are distinct and full-sounding, with more growl and taut low end from the bridge pickup, while the neck pickup has ample oomph and thick cut. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, we've dialed in this Les Paul Custom with fresh 10-46 strings, low action and accurate intonation.

The three-piece maple neck has a modestly slender C-shaped profile carve at the nut with round shoulders in every register and a gentle increase in overall heft further up the neck, measuring .825" deep at the 1st fret and .980" at the 12th. The ebony fretboard boasts multi-ply binding and pearl block inlays, retaining the original medium jumbo frets which have ample meat, showing just a touch of wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3. The guitar plays cleanly in every register with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 11/16" in width, and the headstock retains the original set of Schaller-made and Gibson-branded gold tuning machines with metal tulip buttons. On the back of the headstock, the guitar sports its original stickered serial number and small volute.

The original electronics all function as intended, with the stock pair of T Top humbuckers with patent number-embossed baseplates and untouched solder on the gold covers. The pickups also have the "Williamsville" stamps seen on the baseplates in this era. The wiring harness is similarly undisturbed, with a quartet of CTS pots which date to the 5th week of '76. Plastics comprise a replacement set of black speed knobs, along with the original "Les Paul Custom" truss rod cover, multi-ply pickguard, and switch surround. Original hardware includes the Nashville bridge and corresponding stopbar, both of which have clean gold plating, along with the pickup covers.

The gloss Wine Red nitro lacquer finish exhibits buckle wear on the back, primarily on the lower bout and to a lesser extent at the waist, with some small nicks on top behind the bridge, and a few additional minor marks and finish scratches on the body as a whole. There is also a small area of targeted touch-up on the body perimeter at the bass-side waist. The gloss finish on the neck profile is extremely clean.

The original black tolex hardshell case with red plush interior is included, retaining the original handle and all but one of the latches.
