Out Of Stock
Up for sale, a 1976 Fender Mustang Bass in exceptional condition and in perfect working order, finished in transparent Blonde and complete with the original hardshell case. This ash-bodied Mustang Bass is notably lightweight at 7lbs 13lbs, strung with roundwound 45-100 strings that accentuate the clear note attack and midrange punch of ash as a tonewood. Channeled through the original split coil gray bobbin pickup, this Mustang Bass' sound is warm and thick, with classic low end thump with the Tone knob rolled back to taste and clarity in the treble frequencies. We've had this Mustang Bass professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with comfortable action and accurate intonation.

The maple neck has a U-shaped profile carve with generous shoulder and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .870" deep at the 1st fret and .999" at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard has pearloid dot inlay, retaining the original slender fretwire which shows virtually no wear with well-rounded crowns. The truss rod is responsive, the neck is straight, and this bass plays cleanly up the 30" scale. The nut measures 1 9/16" in width, and the headstock retains the original clover button Fender-embossed tuners. The neck heel retains its green ink stamp from 1976, along with numerous other factory stamps on the heel and in the neck pocket.

All of the electronics function as intended, with the original CTS Tone pot and capacitor, and a vintage replacement Volume pot with a date code from '81. The original pickup has a 1976 date stamp on the gray bobbin. The chrome is particularly bright and clean on the control plate, bridge, and F neck plate. Original plastics include the knobs, thumbrest, and multi-ply white pickguard.

The transparent Blonde gloss finish is 100% original with no touchup or overspray, highlighting the broad grain of the contoured ash body. Extremely well-kept, cosmetic wear is limited to faint pick wear and some light finish scratches and minor marks largely relegated to the back, while the gloss finish on the neck profile is extremely clean and smooth.

The original black tolex hardshell case is included and remarkably clean, with an unusual flat Fender badge on the case lid, all three functional latches, the original handle and small Victoria-branded neck strap (for the Victoria Luggage Case Co).
