Up for sale, a 1976 Fender Champ in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This Silverface-era Fender delivers five watts of pure Class A tube tone. A surprisingly loud amp via the Oxford alnico magnet 8" speaker, the Champ offers warm, dynamic cleans before pushing into smooth, lightly compressed tube overdrive when turning up the Volume dial. Responsive to picking dynamics and absolutely huge-sounding with a microphone in front of it, it's hard to beat the Champ for pure simplicity and great tone.
The circuit is 100% original save for a single capacitor, recently given a check-up by our techs here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar to ensure optimal functionality. Both of the stock Schumacher-made transformers have source date codes from the 29th and 31st weeks of '76, and the CTS pots have visible codes from the 30th week of '76. A modern three-prong power cable has been installed.
The tube chart is intact inside the cabinet, and the tube complement includes a 5U4 rectifier, Fender-branded 6V6 power tube and a vintage Fender-branded preamp tube. The speaker is a vintage, era-correct 8” alnico magnet Oxford with a clean frame and a modern cone. There are also some small mounting holes in the backside of the original baffle from a different speaker installation (the baffle is structurally sound).
The original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle orange stripe grillcloth is intact. The faceplate is very well-kept with all of the original witch hat knobs and clean graphics, and hardware includes the stock handle caps, chassis straps, raised Fender logo, and sphinx glides (feet).
