Up for sale, a 1975 Martin 000-28 vintage auditorium body acoustic guitar, near mint and complete with the original hardshell case. One of Martin's most popular body sizes, this 000 is a stunningly well-kept vintage example with a solid X-braced Sitka spruce top and Indian rosewood back and sides, finished in gloss nitro lacquer.
The 000 body size allows for tons of projection and tonal breath, with a rich, defined bass register and sparkling, crisp trebles. The midrange frequencies are balanced and complex, and this Martin responds well both to a flatpick and fingerstyle playing. The spruce top has had nearly half a century to open up, and even with the limited use this guitar has seen, it still has a worked-in, dynamic quality. The instrument weighs 4lbs 6oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 12-54 strings and easy-playing action.
The mahogany neck has a medium depth soft V profile carve with quite a bit of additional shoulder and heft as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .845” deep at the 1st fret and .975” at the 9th. On the ebony fretboard, the frets are nigh flawless with their full factory height and well-rounded crowns, playing cleanly in all registers. The scale length measures 24.9", and the nut is 1 11/16" in width. On the headstock, the stock Grover Rotomatic tuning machines turn very smoothly and hold pitch as intended with clean chrome plating.
The neck retains its original neck set, and the stock saddle has modest height, with action sitting at 8/64" on the bass side at the 12th fret and 5/64" on the treble side. The bridge sits flush with the spruce on all edges, showing virtually no deflection of the top, and the original pickguard is intact as well, also sitting flush. Maintenance is limited to a reglued center seam on top and the extremely common and slight "B string" crack repair between the edge of the pickguard and bridge. A strap button has also been added to the neck heel. The gloss nitro lacquer finish on the body is stunningly well-kept, and cosmetic wear is limited to just a few very faint finish scratches and tiny nicks on the instrument as a whole
The original gray molded Martin hardshell case is included and equally as clean as the guitar.
