Up for sale, a 1975 Guild Starfire IV in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and Guild-branded polish cloth. An impressively well-kept Starfire, this Guild features the original HB-1 humbuckers that deliver a powerful, articulate range of tones with excellent definition and warmth. The semi-hollow maple body gives the guitar a distinct note attack and immediacy, with a sweet airiness as notes sustain. And not to be confused with recent Starfire iterations, this is a genuine vintage USA-made Guild, produced at the Westerly, RI factory. Weighing 9lbs 3oz, we've had this Starfire professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action and accurate intonation.
The two-piece mahogany neck with maple center stripe has a slender C-shaped profile carve with round shoulders in every register and just a hair more heft as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .805" deep at the 1st fret and .870" at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard features pearl block inlay and medium jumbo fretwire that has good meat and fairly flat crowns, showing virtually no wear. The guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 5/8" in width, and the headstock retains the Guild-branded Schaller tuners which have near mint chrome plating and function reliably.
All of the electronics function as they should, with dedicated Volume and Tone knobs for each pickup, as well as a smaller Master Volume knob located adjacent to the three-way pickup selector switch on the treble side body cutaway. All of the original chrome hardware is notably clean including the "G" harp tailpiece, Schaller roller bridge, and HB-1 pickup covers. The plastic parts are all accounted for and near mint as well, with the original pickup rings, knobs, and stair-stepped pickguard which retains a flawless Guild silkscreen and shows a bit of requisite pick scuffing. The serialized oval label is intact and visible through the F hole, with a serial matching the number imprinted on the headstock.
The original natural Blonde gloss nitro lacquer finish exhibits light checking, with a couple small spots of faint buckle wear on the back, central to the waist and on the bass-side lower bout. Cosmetic wear is otherwise limited to just a few additional minor marks on the body as a whole. The gloss nitro finish on the neck profile is smooth and free of palm wear.
The original black tolex hardshell case is included, equally as nice as the guitar with functional latches and the original handle. The original Guild-branded polish cloth is also included.
