Up for sale, a 1975 Gibson Les Paul Standard in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. One of very few special ordered Les Paul Standards with full-size humbuckers made in '75 (the Standard wouldn't officially become a catalog model again until the following year), this rare Gibson retains its original pair of T Top humbuckers and has an exceedingly clean original Ice Tea Sunburst gloss nitro lacquer finish. The carved maple top, two-piece solid mahogany body, and maple neck deliver the classic range of sounds indicative of this tonewood combination, with incredible clarity and warmth. The bridge pickup has round, chiming tones with a hint of growl and great cut, while the middle position on the three-way toggle has an ideal rhythm sound, especially with the neck pickup rolled back just a touch. The neck position humbucker has warmth and woof without sacrificing detail, providing a perfect lead sound and a sweetness that lends itself to complex chord voicings. This Les Paul is quite lightweight for this model and era at 9lbs 8oz, and acoustically the guitar has a clear, smooth voice with top end sparkle and rich sustaining tones. We've had this Gibson professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation. The three-piece maple neck has slender C profile carve at the nut with appreciably more roundness and shoulder as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .810" deep at the 1st fret and 1.005" at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard features pearl trapezoid inlays, professionally refretted with medium jumbo fretwire that has plenty of meat and height, currently showing only light wear on the crowns of frets 1-4. The nut measures 1 11/16" in width, and the headstock features the stickered serial number first seen in '75 with the correct "99" prefix (still stating "Deluxe" for the model, despite the full-size humbuckers). The guitar features an era-correct set of vintage Gibson Deluxe double ring, double line tuning machines which turn smoothly and hold pitch well. A different tuner set was fitted in the past, as evidenced by the singular small mounting holes just inset from the original gears. All of the original electronics are intact, with CTS pots and original T Top humbuckers with patent number-embossed baseplates and untouched solder on the chrome covers. The hardware includes the original chrome Nashville bridge and corresponding stopbar, and the original reflector cap knobs are present too, with clean text on the caps. The maple top has very well-matched seams, and the original nitro lacquer Ice Tea Sunburst finish is simply remarkable in its preservation, with a rich, unfaded appearance. Cosmetic wear is limited to light buckle rash on the back, both at the bass-side waist and central to the lower bout, with a few additional nicks and minor marks, mostly relegated to the back body edge. The neck profile is flawless, and this is easily one of the cleanest early '70s Gibson bursts we've encountered. A black tolex hardshell case is included.
