Up for sale, a 1974 Yamaha SG-90 in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. A precursor to the venerable SG-2000, the SG-90 was produced only from 1974-75 with solid mahogany body and neck construction. The guitar offers a vibrant acoustic tone with a subtle midrange bump and a distinctive barking cut when you dig in, qualities which translate well via the original humbucker pair. This "SG" matches its Gibson cousin (no relation) both in name and tonal profile, with an array of sweet, powerful sounds that have ideal treble cut and bass register punch. This SG-90 weighs 7lbs 10oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 11-49 strings, low action, and accurate intonation. The mahogany neck has a very slender and fast-feeling C-shaped profile carve with slight shoulders and a gradual increase in heft as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .770" deep at the 1st fret and .935" at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard features the original slender frets which show only a touch of wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-6, playing easily up the 24 3/4" scale. The nut measures a full 1 11/16" in width, upgraded to a hand-carved piece of bone for optimal note clarity and sustain. On the headstock, the original nickel paddle button Yamaha-branded tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch reliably, exhibiting uniform surface patinaAll of the electronics work as they should, with a three-way selector switch and individual Volume and Tone knobs governing the stock pickups. The humbuckers have original date stamps on their baseplates that translate to the 49th year of the Showa period (1974). The original black reflector cap knobs are intact, and the hardware includes the bridge with nylon saddles and corresponding stopbar. The Walnut body finish is framed by ambered binding, and cosmetic wear is limited to just a few light scuffs on top and some requisite pick marks across the guard, with a few minor dings and light finish scratches on the back. The original dark gray tolex hardshell case is included, retaining the Yamaha badge on the exterior, functional latches, and the original handle.
