1974 Rickenbacker 4001 Vintage Electric Bass White, 100% Original w/ Case

+ shipping

Up for sale, a 1974 Rickenbacker 4001 in 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Featuring neck through maple body construction, this Rickenbacker thumps and growls with the best and offers healthy sustain, boasting the original White gloss finish. The bass weighs 8lbs 10oz, strung with fresh 45-100 roundwound strings, and delivering plenty of midrange power and punch via the two original Hi-Gain pickups. This 4001 has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with comfortable action and solid intonation.

The three piece maple/walnut neck has a round C-shaped profile carve with full shoulders in every register, measuring .880” deep at the 1st fret and .895” at the 12th fret. The 33 1/4" scale is Rickenbacker's traditional long scale, and the gloss-finished slab rosewood fretboard features original slender frets and pearloid triangle inlays. The frets have fret-edge binding and their full factory height, showing moderate wear primarily beneath the A and D strings on frets 1-7. The neck is straight with a pair of responsive, optimally adjusted truss rods, and the nut measures 1 5/8" in width. The headstock retains the original Rickenbacker logo/truss rod cover, and the set of original clover button tuning machines offer a smooth, reliable response.

All of the electronics work as they should, with untouched solder joints and an original harness with CTS pots that date to the 35th week of 1974. The Rick-o-Sound stereo jack plate has an NL-prefix serial number that dates to December of 1974. All of the original plastic parts are intact including the long baton switch tip, quartet of knobs, and one-ply pickguard which has one chipped corner. The chrome-plated hardware has plenty of shine, including the original bridge pickup bezel and bridge assembly, complete with the adjustable mute and original (albeit crusty) mute foam.

The White gloss finish is 100% original with no touchup or overspray, and cosmetic wear includes wear through the gloss on the back of the bass-side body horn. There is light buckle rash central to the back, with some additional finish chips and minor marks largely relegated to the back and body perimeter. There is also cleanly repaired fretboard separation on either side of the nut from frets 1-3, extremely common for Rickenbackers in this era.

The original black tolex hardshell case with orange plush interior and black leather ends is included. All three latches are intact and functional, as is the stock handle, and there is a faded band name stenciled on the lid.
