Up for sale, a 1974 Marshall JMP Lead 50 Model 1987 “big box” head in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Freshly serviced, this 50 watt JMP roars with a pure and dynamic non-master volume circuit. Able to achieve rich, aggressive breakup at more manageable volumes than its 100 watt brother, the amp has ample headroom for muscley, robust cleans and rich, textured distortion characteristics at higher volumes. The EQ controls have a wide sweep for easily dialing in the perfect amount of bark and cut, and jumpering the two channels on the four input design cascades the gain for additional ripping drive.
The circuit retains the original Drake power and output transformers and Dagnall Electronics Ltd. choke. The preamp is loaded with largely original components including the Mullard Mustard caps which have visible date codes from the 1st quarter of ‘74. All pots and jacks are original, and a three-prong power cable has been installed. The inspection tag is fully intact in the corner of the chassis, dating to March 27th, 1974.
The tubes consist of a freshly biased pair of Electro Harmonix EL34 power tubes, along with the trio of original Marshall ECC83 valves in the preamp. The chassis itself is in good shape with a faceplate that retains all of the original black silkscreen lettering and a full complement of original knobs. The F-suffix serial number stamped on the backplate dates production to '74.
The original tolex is quite clean with only a few minor marks on the enclosure. All of the original gold piping is intact, along with the original small Marshall logo, feet, and handle.
