Up for sale, a 1974 Greco TE-500 Thinline in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. An early Greco model produced by Matsumoku and rarely seen outside Japan, this TE-500 features a semi-hollow ash body, maple neck, and a particularly uncommon dark rosewood fretboard.Acoustically this Greco has a balanced response with plenty of midrange complexity and natural projection. The pair of Greco-embossed Maxon-made Wide Range humbuckers are dynamic and versatile with a sweet, sonorous tone chock-full of harmonic complexity. The bridge pickup is clear and open with plenty of sparkling chime, while the neck is warmer and rounder, with enough clarity and cut to stay articulate when pushing an amp; making this guitar equally comfortable with gentle melodies as with big, growling chords. This Thinline weighs 7lbs 15oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with fresh 10-46 strings, low action and spot-on intonation. The maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with moderate shoulder, measuring .810” deep at the 1st fret and .925” at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard is an extremely dark cut of this tonewood with lightly rolled edges for added comfort, retaining the original practically perfect fretwire with well-rounded crowns. This guitar plays cleanly in all registers with a straight neck and responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. A bit more compact than traditional Fender spec, the scale length is 24 3/4”, while the nut measures 1 5/8” in width. The headstock features a Greco block logo (one of the last “Gneco” logos before this was changed to be more legible circa ‘75), dual string trees, and star tuners with bright chrome plating. On the body, all of the electronics work as they should, with the Greco-embossed humbuckers governed by a three-way pickup selector switch and Master Volume and Tone knobs. Solder joints are untouched, and the pickups have Maxon ink stamps on the baseplates which date to '74. Hardware includes the six-saddle bridge and pair of knurled knobs. The white pearloid pickguard has great dimension, and the hardware has plenty of shine with only light surface patina on the bridge base. The ambered Natural gloss finish highlights the broad, dynamic grain of the ash body, and cosmetic wear includes some minor dings and finish scratches on the body, particularly concentrated on the perimeter and on the lower bout on top. The smooth gloss finish on the neck profile is immaculate.A gigbag is included.
