1974 Gibson SG Standard Vintage Guitar Walnut w/ Ebony Board, Tarback Pickups, Case

Up for sale, a 1974 Gibson SG Standard in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. This Norlin-era SG pairs an uncommon slab ebony fretboard with the SG's otherwise traditional mahogany construction, yielding a more glassy top end and greater note attack and articulation.

The guitar is loaded with the original pair of "Tarback" humbuckers, which have a different magnet structure and fewer winds than the T Tops produced in the same era. The Tarbacks are a lively, sparkling pickup pair, perfect for pairing with the SG's solid mahogany construction, coupled with the black epoxy that gave these humbuckers their name and ensures great feedback rejection by suppressing microphonics (particularly effective in high gain scenarios). The bridge pickup is notably honky, with great cut and treble smoothness, and neck humbucker is plenty thick and warm, with punchy lower-midrange chop. This SG is featherweight at 6lbs 15oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

There is an area of finish touch-up on top of the bass-side cutaway, and the gloss Walnut nitro lacquer finish is otherwise 100% original, exhibiting limited lacquer checking behind the bridge on top. There are a few small finish chips on the lower bout perimeter, a small area of light buckle worming central to the back, and a few minor dings and finish scratches on the body as a whole. The neck profile's smooth gloss is free of palm wear.
