Up for sale, a 1974 Gibson SG Standard in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. A great example of a mid-’70s SG, this SG Standard features the original pair of Tarback humbuckers with sparingly little fretwear and a clean gloss Walnut nitro lacquer finish.
This SG Standard has plenty of natural warmth and midrange growl on tap, and the original pair of "Tarback" humbuckers have a different magnet structure and fewer winds than the T Tops produced in the same era. Coupled with the black epoxy that gave these humbuckers their name and ensures great feedback rejection by suppressing microphonics, the Tarbacks are a lively, sparkling pickup pair. Plugged in, the bridge pickup has a surprising twang and clarity, but with a smooth top end, while the middle and neck positions have plenty of sweetness and percussive cut. This SG Standard weighs 7lbs 6oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

-Wood: Mahogany
-Shape: Chunky C, measuring .890” 1st fret, 1.035” 12th fret

The gloss Walnut nitro lacquer finish has light buckle worming on the back, a couple small finish chips along the lower bout perimeter, and some minor nicks and finish scratches on top, primarily behind the bridge. A previous owner has also scratched their phone number into the clear coat on the treble-side lower bout perimeter. The gloss on the neck profile is nigh flawless.
The original black tolex hardshell case is included. The case is well-kept with a red plush interior, silver Gibson silkscreen on the lid, functional latches and the original handle.
