Up for sale, a 1974 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. One of the last Les Pauls of the '70s with a three-piece mahogany neck (before the shift to maple in '75), the tonewoods are rounded out by a "sandwich" mahogany body, three-piece carved maple top, and a bound rosewood fingerboard.
Acoustically, the instrument has a bold and articulate voice with no shortage of punch and sustain, weighing 9lbs 10oz. Plugged in, the original mini humbuckers deliver a round sound with great definition and punch. A perfect blend of humbucker and single coil tonalities, the mini hum's tonal properties are enhanced by the maple/mahogany body construction with both wooly bark and great treble cut. The top end snaps and sparkles, while the bass register stays tight and focused, and each position on the three-way pickup selector is distinct. We've had this Les Paul Deluxe professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
The three-piece mahogany neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with full shoulders, measuring .830" deep at the 1st fret and 1.005" at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard features pearl trapezoid inlay, and the original medium jumbo frets are intact with Gibson's wide/flat fret dress of the era. The frets have been recently crowned with decent meat remaining, showing just a hint of wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3. The neck is straight with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod, playing cleanly up the 24 3/4" scale. The original nut measures 1 11/16" in width. The headstock retains the original Gibson Deluxe double line, double ring tuning machines that turn smoothly.
All of the electronics work as they should, with untouched solder joints and original CTS pots dating to the 52nd week of 1974. The stock chrome-plated hardware is particularly clean, including the patent number ABR-1 bridge (fitted with a replacement set of vintage brass saddles) and corresponding stopbar. Plastics include the original cream pickguard, pickup rings, and switch surround, as well as the original quartet of gold reflector cap knobs.
The Cherry Sunburst nitro lacquer gloss finish is 100% original with no touch-up or overspray, and the carved three-piece top has well-matched seams. Cosmetic wear includes light buckle rash at the bass-side waist, light wear along the back lower bout body ege, and minor marks and light finish scratches on the body as a whole. The gloss on the neck profile is extremely smooth, with just a few shallow nicks on the treble-side edge of the carve.
The original black tolex hardshell case with purple plush interior and clean Gibson silkscreen on the exterior is included.
