Up for sale, a 1974 Gibson G70 2x12” combo amplifier in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original slip cover and casters. Designed by Bob Moog and the Moog team, the G70 was an upper tiered G-Series model produced during the Norlin era of Gibson production from 1971-73, featuring the (then) relatively new technology of solid state amplification.
Boasting a dual-channel, dual-input design with built-in spring Reverb and Tremolo, the G70 is punchy and powerful: the amp offers tons of clean headroom, and the clean tone in question is spanky and absolutely crystal clear, making the G70 exceptionally well-suited for usage with a wide variety of pedals. The trebles are crisp and soaring, the upper-midrange is full-bodied and articulate, and there’s still plenty of low end power on tap while remaining tight at the upper limits of the amp’s Volume potential.
The circuit is largely untouched, and the speakers are a pair of Gibson’s 12” Ultrasonics (Eminence-made); featuring alnico magnets, these speakers are an excellent match for the headroom of the circuit, with a full, smooth and rich tone. The cones are original, and the stamps on the frames date to the 10th week of ‘74.
Cosmetic touches include a black grillcloth with white piping, silver Gibson badge, and white-on-black control plate.
The original slip cover with Gibson “Soundwave” logo is included, along with the original casters.
