Up for sale, a 1974 Gibson ES-335TD in 100% original, collector-grade condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. A time capsule-clean example produced at Gibson's Kalamazoo, MI factory, this vintage ES-335 has a vibrant and positively glossy nitro lacquer finish that splits the difference between Cherry and Wine Red.
With a semi-hollow maple body, three-piece mahogany neck and bound rosewood fingerboard, this ES-335 is tonally authoritative when strummed acoustically, offering an articulate natural response channeled through the original pair of T Tops humbuckers. The pickups deliver a chiming, dynamic treble snap, midrange-rich growl, and low end that is fat yet clear. The tone has the airy and warm qualities of the guitar's semi-hollowbody construction, with the immediate attack and dynamic responsiveness of the body's solid center block and maple as a tonewood. This ES-335TD weighs 7lbs 14oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 11-49 strings, spot-on intonation and slinky action.
The three-piece mahogany neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve at the nut, with a notable increase in shoulder and overall heft further up the fretboard and baseball bat-worthy chunky from the 7th fret and beyond. The profile measures .805" deep at the 1st fret, .920" at the 7th fret, and .995" at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard has pearloid small block inlay and original medium jumbo fretwire which shows only very light wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3. The guitar plays cleanly in every register up the 24 3/4" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 9/16" in width, and the headstock retains the original set of practically perfect double line double ring Gibson Deluxe tuning machines.
All of the electronics work as they should, and both humbuckers have untouched solder on the covers and patent number embossed baseplates. The original chrome pickup covers, patent number ABR-1 Tune-o-Matic bridge, and trapeze tailpiece shine like new. All plastic parts are very tidy including the near mint witch hat knobs and the multi-ply pickguard which exhibits a bit of light requisite pick scuffing. The rectangular "Union-Made" Gibson label is also intact, visible through the F hole.
Cosmetically, this guitar is absolutely stunning in its presentation, and the original Wine Red nitro lacquer gloss finish has no lacquer checking. Cosmetic wear is limited to a couple pinhead-sized dings adjacent to the tailpiece on top, and a couple faint finish scratches central to the lower bout on the back. The gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless.
The original black tolex hardshell case with purple plush interior is included. The case is equally as clean as the guitar, with all of the original functional latches and stock handle.
