1974 Fender Musicmaster Vintage Electric Guitar Dakota Red w/ Case

+ shipping

Up for sale, a 1974 Fender Musicmaster in perfect working order with a Dakota Red gloss finish. 100% original save for an upgraded carved bone nut, this Musicmaster is a sleek no-frills vintage Fender featuring an alder body and singular neck position gray bobbin single coil. The pickup has a cutting tone with a clear, percussive snap and an ideal balance of warmth and twang. The guitar weighs 6lbs 5oz, dialed in with fresh 10-46 strings and low action here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar.

The maple neck has a fairly chunky U-shaped profile carve with full shoulders in every register and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .860" deep at the 1st fret and .920" at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard features pearloid dot inlay and original slender frets which show moderate wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3, with fainter wear extending to fret 6, playing cleanly in every register. The scale length measures 24", the fretboard radius is 7 1/4", and the nut measures 1 9/16" in width, upgraded to a hand-carved piece of bone for optimal note clarity and sustain. On the headstock, the original Fender F tuners with hexagonal white buttons turn smoothly and hold pitch well. The factory "paint stick" markings are present in the neck pocket, and the neck heel retains its factory stamps.

The electronics all function as intended, with the original gray bobbin pickup wired to CTS pots which date to the 52nd week of '73 with untouched solder joints. The chrome plating on the F neck plate and bridge base is clean as can be, with light patina on the spiral saddles. Plastics comprise the original knobs and a sparingly aged stock white three-ply pickguard. The original gloss Dakota Red finish shows no touchup or overspray, with some dings on top behind the bridge, and some additional minor marks and finish scratches on the perimeter of the slab body and on the back as well, yet nothing beyond a bit of light, honest playwear from the past half century. The neck profile retains its smooth gloss with just a few minor marks on the treble side of the carve, not distracting to the palm when fretting.

A vintage non-original black tolex hardshell case with a gold interior is included. The case is a great fit and very clean, retaining functional latches and the original handle.
