Up for sale, a 1973 Rickenbacker 4001 in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with a hardshell case. Produced in the third quarter of ‘73, this Ric bridges the gap between the 1969-72 feature set and later 4001s, retaining a toaster top neck pickup while sporting smaller fretboard inlay and one-ply (non-checkerboard) body binding.
Featuring neck through body construction and strung with roundwound 45-100 strings that accentuate the grind and top end articulation of the instrument, there's equal parts midrange power and fundamental warmth available via the original pickup pair. This 4001 weighs 9lbs 11oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with easy-playing action and spot-on intonation.
Neck Specs:
-Wood: Maple/Walnut
-Shape: Substantial C, generous shoulders, measuring .930” 1st fret, .940” 12th fret
-Fretboard: Rosewood, gloss finished with triangular inlay
-Frets: Slender, virtually no wear
-Scale Length: 33 1/4”
-Nut: 1 11/16”
-Headstock: Maple wings, lucite truss rod cover
-Tuners: Grover, wavy clover buttons, chrome-plated
Body Specs:
-Pickups: Hi-Gain (bridge), Toaster Top (neck)
-Harness: Untouched solder, CTS pots date to the 30th week of '73
-Controls: Volume x2, Tone x2, Three-way pickup selector
-Hardware: Four-saddle bridge, pickup surround
-Serialization: MH-prefix on stereo “Rick-o-Sound” jack plate, translates to August, 1974
-Plastics: One-ply pickguard (small repaired split adjacent to neck pickup), reflector knobs
The Mapleglo gloss finish is 100% original with no touch-up or overspray, and cosmetic wear includes buckle rash on the back (largely concentrated on the bass-side upper bout) and a number of small dings along the lower bout perimeter and on top. The neck profile retains its smooth gloss, with a few shallow marks along the profile length.
A modern Rickenbacker molded hardshell case is included.
