Up for sale, a 1973 Greco EG800 LP Custom electric guitar in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with original gold embossed "Greco" humbucker covers and hardshell case. The highest tiered LP model offered at the time, and an instrument that wouldn't make its proper catalog appearance with embossed covers until '74, the EG800 is an extremely rare and early Greco instrument, produced at the famed Fujigen factory in Japan.Tonewoods include a one-piece maple top, "sandwich" mahogany body, and three-piece maple neck capped with a bound ebony fingerboard, closely matching the construction and woods used of Gibson's Les Paul Custom of the era. This Greco retains its original pair of Maxon-made humbuckers which have a range of bold, articulate humbucker tones, ideally wound to capture rich top end harmonic complexity and deliver open, shimmering cut in the bridge position. The guitar weighs 9lbs, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation. The three-piece maple neck has a '50s-style C-shaped profile carve with plenty of shoulder and substance, just shy of “baseball bat” proportions, measuring .870" deep at the 1st fret and .960" at the 12th. The bound ebony fretboard is a dynamic cut of this tonewood, jet black on the bass side and more chocolate brown on the treble side, retaining the original slender frets which have fairly flat crowns and show very little wear, playing cleanly up the 24 3/4" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The original carved bone nut measures 1 11/16" in width. The headstock retains the original Greco star tuners, and this is an early pre-serial number instrument. The open book headstock shape also sports multi-ply binding and split diamond pearloid inlay. On the body, all of the electronics work as they should, and the pickups have the correct Gibson-style braided wire and read well in line with PAFs in terms of output. The Maxon date stamps on the pickup baseplates both translate to 1973, and one of the rarest and most desirable features for any Maxon pickup, this pair features embossed "Greco" covers. The hardware includes the original gold stopbar and Nashville-style bridge with uniform surface patina, and the clean, original plastics comprise the original quartet of witch hat knobs and the raised multi-ply pickguard which shows some requisite pick scuffing. The bold Cherry Sunburst gloss finish is 100% original with no touchup or overspray, and the guitar is remarkably well-kept, with cosmetic wear limited to just a few faint finish scratches and minor marks on the body as a whole, and a bit of finish checking surrounding the pickup selector. The gloss finish on the neck profile is nigh flawless. The original gold interior black tolex hardshell case is included.
