Up for sale, a 1973 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with a hardshell case. This Les Paul has been converted to Standard spec, loaded with a pair of ‘70s DiMarzio Super Distortion humbuckers. Tonewoods include a “sandwich” mahogany body, carved maple top, three-piece mahogany neck, and bound rosewood fretboard, and this Les Paul weighs 9lbs 9oz, dishing out plenty of natural sustain and rich midrange growl.
This set of early DiMarzio Super Distortion humbuckers are designed to push a tube amp into creamy overdrive with boosted mids, wide lows, and fat highs. Chords are crunchy and chunky, and melodic lines have a searing, white-hot singing quality that sits great in a mix; simply put, there’s a reason this pickup has been favored by artists as varied as Ace Frehley, Phil Collen, and Kurt Cobain. The added neck pickup Series/Parallel mini toggle also offers a particularly powerful sound in Series mode. This Les Paul Deluxe benefits from a professional setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

There is a headstock repair beneath the volute, repaired both structurally and cosmetically, with localized black overspray in this area that’s smooth to the touch. Both pickup cavities have been fractionally routed on their rear edges to accommodate full-size humbuckers, and there are a couple “skin deep” splits on the bass side of the carved maple top.
The original Goldtop nitro lacquer gloss exhibits some vertical lacquer checking, with buckle rash central to the back, a small area of wear on the back edge adjacent to the output jack, and some minor dings and finish scratches on the body as a whole. The gloss on the neck profile is smooth and inviting to the palm, with a few shallow marks on the profile length.
The original black tolex hardshell case is included.
