Up for sale, a 1973 Fender Telecaster Custom in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and loaded with a pair of boutique Lollar pickups. This Telecaster has a gloss purple metalflake refinish over the ash body, offering an authoritative and punchy natural acoustic quality, blending the midrange complexity and note attack of ash with the glassy treble cut of the maple fingerboard.A textbook example of what makes these guitars beloved, this guitar blends the twang and sparkle of a classic Telecaster bridge pickup with the warmth of the "Wide Range" humbucker design in the neck position. A very clear and percussive sounding humbuckera with more shimmer and top end detail than most dual coil pickups, the Lollar Regal iteration of the Wide Range humbucker pairs very well with the bridge position Lollar Special T single coil in terms of output, and the two pickups compliment each other very well when both are engaged. Weighing 7lbs 13oz and professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, we've dialed in this Telecaster Custom with 10-46 strings, low action and accurate intonation. The maple neck has a U-shaped profile carve with ample shoulder in every register, measuring .870" deep at the 1st fret and .970" at the 12th. The maple fretboard has a 7 1/4" radius, and the original slender frets are intact, leveled and crowned in the guitar’s lifetime, and currently only showing light wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-2. The guitar plays cleanly in every register up the 25 1/2" scale, and the neck is straight with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 5/8" in width, upgraded to a hand-carved piece of bone for optimal note clarity and sustain. The headstock sports original Fender "F" tuning machines which turn smoothly and hold pitch well. The neck heel retains its red ink stamp which dates to February '73.On the body, all of the electronics work as they should, and the new pair of Lollar pickups are wired to a modern harness with properly spec'd 1Meg and 250k CTS pots and Sprague Orange Drop tone capacitors. Hardware includes the original three-saddle bridge, complete with the original chrome-plated "ashtray" cover. Plastics include the original quartet of witch hat knobs and the large three-ply pickguard which exhibits some pick scuffing on the treble side. The body has been refinished in a deep shade of purple with subtle metalflake, while the neck retains its original natural gloss. Cosmetic wear includes finish scratches on the body as a whole, with some additional unique finish checking beneath the purple gloss on the lower bout on top. There are some small nicks on the body as a whole, and a light texturing of the finish on the back lower bout body edge from prolonged contact with a strap or case lining. An extra strap button hole has been added just north of the neck plate on the heel. The neck retains its smooth gloss on the profile length, with just a couple small marks on the carve behind fret 10 that have no impact on playability. The original black tolex Fender hardshell case is included. The case features black leather ends, a pair of original functional outer latches, the stock handle, and raised Fender logo on the exterior.
