Up for sale, a 1972 Marshall JMP Lead 50 Model 1987 in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Recently retubed and freshly serviced, this Lead 50 has a signed inspection tag from July of 1972, hailing from an era where Marshall was still hand-wiring their circuits on turret boards before PCBs were implemented in '73.

This 50 watt JMP roars with a pure and dynamic non-master volume circuit. Able to achieve rich, aggressive breakup at more manageable volumes than its 100 watt brother, the amp has ample headroom for muscley, robust cleans and rich, textured distortion characteristics at higher volumes. The EQ controls have a wide sweep for easily dialing in the perfect amount of bark and cut, and jumpering the two channels on the four input design cascades the gain for additional ripping drive.

The circuit is stunningly original, with stock Drake transformers and a virtually untouched preamp save for a mini bias trim pot bridged on a couple of the turrets. All pots and jacks are original, and the inspection tag is fully intact in the corner of the chassis.

The tubes consist of a freshly biased pair of Electro Harmonix EL34 power tubes, along with a trio of modern EH preamp tubes. The chassis itself is in good shape with some minor surface rust and a faceplate that retains all of the original black silkscreen lettering and a full complement of original knobs. The D-suffix serial number stamped on the backplate dates production to '72.

The original tolex is quite clean with some minor tears and edge wear. All of the original gold piping is intact, along with the original small Marshall logo, feet and handle.
