1972 Gibson ES-175 D Vintage Archtop Electric Guitar Ice Tea Sunburst w/ Case

+ shipping

Up for sale, a 1972 Gibson ES-175D in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original case. A very clean vintage example, this ES-175 boasts its original patent sticker T Top humbuckers, delivering a detailed and dynamic range of tones. The fully hollow maple body gives the guitar both the immediate attack and clarity of maple, but also an airy quality and smoothness befitting the hollowbody construction. Authoritative and particularly clear and bell-like on the neck pickup, this ES-175 really sings through a vintage tube amp, and acoustically the guitar has a big, open sound with warmth and a touch of growl. Lightweight at 6lbs 14oz, this ES-175D has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 11-49 roundwound strings, spot-on intonation, and ideal action.

The three-piece mahogany neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve at the nut, offering more roundness and shoulder as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .810" deep at the 1st fret and .960" at the 9th. The bound rosewood fretboard is a particularly dark cut of this tonewood, inlaid with pearloid split parallelograms and retaining the original medium jumbo fretwire. The frets retain their full factory height, showing moderate wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-7, and lighter wear extending to the octave. The guitar plays effortlessly up the straight neck with an ideally adjusted truss rod. The headstock features original Gibson Deluxe double line/double ring tuners which turn smoothly and function reliably.

All of the electronics work as they should, with two stock T Top humbuckers with patent stickers on the baseplates, original chrome covers, untouched solder, and original pots. The original floating rosewood bridge and clean chrome trapeze tailpiece are both intact, as is the pickguard, bracket, and witch hat knobs. The Ice Tea Sunburst nitro lacquer gloss finish is rich and unfaded, and cosmetic wear on the body is limited to some faint finish scratches and minor marks, mostly relegated to the back. The neck profile gloss is free of palm wear, clean and smooth save for one ding on the bass-side shoulder behind fret 3.

The original black tolex chipboard case with red plush interior is included. The case retains its original latches and handle with a silver Gibson silkscreen on the lid.
