Up for sale, a 1970's Firstman Mosrite Avenger in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order with a custom color transparent Cherry gloss finish. A rebranding of the Ventures Model platform, this guitar follows the stylings of the 1960s USA Mosrites, but was produced in Japan in the '70s as a result of an agreement between Semie Moseley and the Firstman company. All the hallmarks of the classic Mosrite design are present on this model, with a deep German Carve on the body, Moseley-branded vibrato tailpiece, and a pair of overwound single coil pickups. Rich and roaring, these pickups can naturally deliver a bold surfy treble-centric sizzle, with smooth midrange and ample low end too. The guitar weighs 8lbs 6oz, and the body is a species of mahogany, with a natural heft and warmth not typically attributed to a Mosrite's acoustic quality. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, we've dialed in this Avenger with fresh 11-48 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation. The maple neck has an absolutely chunky, “baseball bat” profile carve which has ample shoulder and a substantial feel. Especially compared to the slimmer USA Mosrite neck profile carves of the era, this Mosrite provides a hearty handful for players turned off by the typically thinner Mosrite necks, and the profile depth measures .890" at the 1st fret and 1.055" at the 12th. On the dark rosewood fretboard, the original slender frets have well-rounded crowns and a fairly low factory fret dress, showing just a hint of wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-2. The fretboard is also bound, with a bit of finish checking along the binding. The guitar plays well up the 24 3/4" scale, and the fretboard is 1 9/16" wide at the zero fret just forward of the aluminum nut. The headstock features original paddle button chrome-plated sealed machines that turn smoothly. The simple and straightforward electronics work as intended, with a three-way pickup selector switch and Master Volume and Tone knobs. The black plastic pickup covers are embossed with the Mosrite name, and the Moseley tailpiece has the same design as its USA-made predecessor, with a smaller diameter spring than a Bigsby and a quicker actuation for subtle warbles. The knobs are also the "smooth" style more akin to a pre-1966 Mosrite. The body features deep German Carve on top, and the transparent Cherry gloss highlights the wood grain. Cosmetic wear is limited to a few minor dings and faint finish scratches mostly relegated to the back, and some small nicks localized on the bass-side lower bout body edge. The neck profile is flawless.A gigbag is included.
